Amazon shares top Dow Jones index
The Dow Jones index recorded slight gains of 202 points and is currently at 38,288 points. Shares of Amazon, Microsoft and Goldman Sachs Group were the trading day's top performers. Amazon recorded the largest increase in value of 3.48 percent and is currently at $179.71. Microsoft and Goldman Sachs Group also saw share prices rise.
On the other hand, shares of Intel, IBM Business Machines and Procter & Gamble posted losses. Intel lost 9.21 percent of its value and is currently trading at $31.88. IBM Business Machines fell 1.52 percent to trade at $166.35, while Procter & Gamble fell 0.76 percent to trade at $161.31.
With the current gains, the Dow Jones balance sheet for the year has improved by 1.50 percent. The Dow Jones Index includes the 30 best-known stocks in the USA and is calculated as a price index. It was introduced in 1896 and stock selection and weighting are based on stock market prices. Investors in the American stock market are currently mostly in a buying mood, which is leading to positive developments in stock prices.
