Potential for IPOs: Experts expect 10-12 IPOs in Germany

After the successful IPO of the Douglas perfumery chain, it is expected that more companies will take the step onto the trading floor this year. Experts such as Martin Steinbach from the auditing and consulting firm EY see positive signs of an increase in IPOs in Germany. It is estimated that if market conditions remain stable and positive, around ten to twelve German companies could go public.

With the successful IPO of tank supplier Renk at the beginning of the year and four German companies among the ten largest IPOs in Europe in 2023, including Birkenstock, Schott Pharma, Thyssenkrupp Nucera and Ionos, the momentum for further IPOs this year seems promising. Nevertheless, there were initial challenges in Douglas' recent IPO on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, as the stock posted a loss of over eleven percent on the first day of trading.

The current lull on the stock markets offers a favorable environment for future IPOs, which could also encourage potential candidates in Germany. Companies such as Oldenburgische Landesbank, Flix, Stada and DKV Mobility are considered possible candidates for IPOs. Nevertheless, IPOs traditionally play a smaller role in Germany compared to other financing options such as house banks and bonds. The attractiveness of the US capital market with its strong liquidity and risk-taking investors also attracts European companies and remains a factor influencing German IPOs.
