Attempt to stabilize on Monday: Investors are hunting for bargains
The Dax started the new week on Monday with a positive trend. After three weaker weeks, the leading German index made an attempt to stabilize, rising by 0.7 percent to 17,866 points in the first minutes of trading. The MDax of medium-sized stocks also recorded an increase of 0.8 percent to 26,192 points, while the EuroStoxx 50, the leading index of the euro zone, rose by 0.7 percent.
At the beginning of April, the DAX had reached a record high of 18,567 points, after recording an increase of almost eleven percent at the beginning of the year. However, in the following weeks the index came under pressure due to increased geopolitical risks and the uncertain monetary policy direction in the USA. Although a rate cut was initially expected in June, there are now signs that a prolonged period of high interest rates may be necessary to combat rising inflation.
Portfolio manager Thomas Altmann of QC Partners expressed optimism, saying that after the recent sell-off, investors are now ready to take advantage of cheap buying opportunities. Investors reacted positively to the fact that there was no new negative news from trouble spots over the weekend.
The coming week will be dominated by the reporting season, with SAP starting the evening after the US stock market closes. This will lead to further developments in the stock market and attract investor interest.
