Bruchsal: Plans for refugee accommodation finally stopped!
The plans for an initial reception center (EA) for refugees in Bruchsal were stopped today. This decision was made by the Ministries of Justice and Finance of the state of Baden-Württemberg, as fm.baden-wuerttemberg.de reported. The location originally intended for the construction of the facility was the area of the former state fire brigade school. The planned operation was supposed to be limited to five years, but the changed overall situation has led to this withdrawal.
The decision to discontinue planning is based on a comprehensive reassessment of the current framework conditions. Factors such as the estimated total construction costs, the number of refugees coming to the facilities and developments at other locations were taken into account. The construction of the EA in Bruchsal as an emergency shelter is therefore no longer feasible. However, the need for accommodation for refugees remains, especially for sustainable and long-term solutions.
Conversion of the area
The city of Bruchsal and the state of Baden-Württemberg have agreed to replan the area for residential purposes. After not being used as an initial reception facility, the site is to be handed over to the city of Bruchsal for residential development in the long term. A purchase contract that has already been notarized regulates the transfer of the area. In addition, a public law agreement was concluded between the state and the city for the use of the area until handover in 2024.
Current situation of the initial reception
In Baden-Württemberg, the initial reception centers (EA) are part of a structured system for processing the asylum procedure. There is a state initial reception center (LEA) in every administrative district, supplemented by the arrival center (AZ) in Heidelberg, which has more capacity for accommodating and processing applications than the individual LEA across the entire state. In addition, additional EAs are available if the capacities of the AZ and the LEA are exhausted. How jum.baden-wuerttemberg.de According to reports, refugees are registered there, medically examined and can apply for asylum.
In the initial reception facilities, refugees not only receive accommodation, but also food, access to medical care and social care and leisure activities. The stay usually only lasts a few months, although families with children are allowed a maximum stay of six months. During this time, the facilities will be staffed with 24-hour security to ensure the safety of residents.
The educational and integration offers that are intended to help refugees integrate into society are particularly important. These include language and literacy courses as well as social projects and leisure activities. The decision to stop construction of the EA in Bruchsal illustrates the need to find alternative solutions and adjustments in asylum policy in order to meet today's requirements.
