Mayoral election in Eppertshausen: Brockmann strong in advance!
The mayoral election in Eppertshausen is coming up on May 25, 2025. The town with 6,500 residents will elect three candidates: Stephan Brockmann from the CDU, Eike Oberhoffner and Marcel Koss, both non-party. Financial policy issues in particular play a central role in this election. In a conversation, Brockmann discussed the community's financial challenges. His main concerns are maintaining voluntary services such as the promotion of clubs, youth work as well as offers for seniors and additional staff in daycare centers.
Brockmann also attaches importance to examining savings opportunities and revenue increases and supports the expansion of the “Park45 2.0” commercial area in order to increase trade tax revenue. He is also aiming to build a new daycare center in order to renovate the existing facilities and contribute to the barrier-free redesign of the sidewalks. Particular attention will also be paid to the main street, where a redevelopment is planned. A dialogue with residents on this matter will continue.
Community challenges
Despite low property and trade tax rates, Brockmann sees the danger of deficit budgets and the reduction of reserves. He states that care should be taken when developing a new residential area south of Babenhäuser Strasse. The introduction of a 30 km/h speed limit on the main road is also preferred as a noise protection measure.
Also important is the planned solar park project on the “Merck-Wiese” between Thomashütte and Rallenteich. Electricity could be generated here for up to 2,500 households, which represents an important step towards sustainable energy supply. Brockmann emphasizes that child and youth care is already well positioned and further offers should be developed in dialogue with young people.
The resignation of Carsten Helfmann
The coming election is also a turning point for the community, as Carsten Helfmann is stepping down as mayor after 22 years. Helfmann, who will take over management of the ZAW from March 1, 2025, describes his time as mayor as a matter of the heart. During his term in office, he implemented numerous projects, including the construction of the community hall, the expansion of the children's and youth offerings and the creation of several building areas.
He particularly emphasizes the importance of cooperation with the administration, the building yard, daycare centers, clubs, companies and citizens. The good financial situation of the community and the support of the clubs as well as the revival of the Eppertshäuser Kerb are also successes that he highlights. Despite the challenges, he emphasizes that not every decision was optimal, but overall there were many successes.
Helfmann thanked all the employees, political representatives, and volunteers for their commitment and collaboration, and the official handover of the keys to First Alderman Stephan Brockmann symbolized the transition to a new era. The upcoming elections will show what direction the community will take.
