Cunaeus is aiming for vice-presidency in the FSA again – change in the association!

On July 10, 2025, René Cunaeus announced his candidacy for the position of Vice President Finance of the Saxony-Anhalt Football Association (FSA). In his first term in office, Cunaeus made a decisive contribution to consolidating the budget and revising and stabilizing the association's financial structure. With his renewed candidacy, he signals continuity and responsibility at a time when the association is dependent on economic stability. Cunaeus emphasizes that the sustainable economic development of the FSA will continue to be the focus.

A central goal in the new legislative period is to continue the successful work and provide new strategic impulses. Under Cunaeus' leadership, the investigation into previous embezzlement cases was also successfully completed, which contributed to the association's financial health. He also played a key role in founding FSA-Service GmbH, which opened up new economic scope for action.

Changes in the Presidium

With the new elections there will be some changes in the FSA Executive Board. Sören Osterland, the previous vice president in the area of qualification and club development, is thanked for his four years of work in amateur football and will not run again. His withdrawal means that two positions in the Presidium will have to be filled, as the current Vice President for Legal Affairs, Frank Hering, will not stand for election and will act as interim President.

Michael Rehschuh, who was previously responsible for club development and qualification, and Holger Stahlknecht, former Interior Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, are running in the presidential election. While Rehschuh has the chance for more visibility in the executive committee, Stahlknecht has to clarify which sports club he belongs to in order to strengthen his reputation in volunteer work.

Candidates for Vice President

The candidates for the various vice presidential positions are also diverse. Jens Alicke from SV Groß Santersleben has already declared his candidacy for the vice-president position. Thomas Schulze from Tangermünde was recommended by the search committee and applied. In addition, Sören Osterland, the sporting director of the youth performance center at 1. FC Magdeburg, will give up his position at the end of June and also apply for a vice-president position.

Haiko Kopf, who has been criticized for a financial scandal, has announced that he will run again for the position of Vice President of Finance. Jens Prinzing from Nienburg and René Cunaeus are the other applicants for this position. In other areas, Lothar Bornkessel is considered a safe candidate for re-election as Vice President for Social Responsibility, as he is the only candidate in this area. Jens Franke from Halle and Frank Knuth from Burg are applying for the position of vice president for legal issues, while Christoph Albrecht from Magdeburg and incumbent Jörg Bihlmeyer are competing for the position of vice president for gaming.

On June 4, all candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the FSA Board and present their goals, which promises further insights into the future direction of the association.
