Volunteer landscape conservationists in Nieder-Bessingen receive 500 euros in funding

The Association for Landscape Protection and Landscape Management in Nieder-Bessingen has received support to promote its important work. Finance Minister Professor Dr. R. Alexander Lorz expressed himself positively about the commitment of the association, which looks after 60 fruit trees in a municipal orchard. This orchard not only plays an important role in the landscape, but is also a habitat for numerous bird species.

Another important aspect of the club's work is the care of eleven nesting boxes and three nesting tubes, which were specially set up for tree sparrows and little owls. In his speech, Lorz thanked the volunteers who work hard to protect birds. In order to further support the club's work, he provided 500 euros in lottery money. The plan is to renew a garden fence on the club's property this year, which should further improve the safety and maintenance of the facility.

Commitment to nature

The association's volunteers also take part in the care of the “Wüstung Hausen”, a church ruin from the 15th century near Lich. This commitment shows the broad spectrum that the association covers and the importance of referring to old cultural assets in addition to landscape maintenance.

In the context of bird conservation, it is important to emphasize that native bird species play a significant role as hunters of insects and indicators of environmental change. According to the EMBA Arch Nesting Boxes website, the disappearance of birds is a serious warning sign of ecological problems. The decline in old, rotten trees and natural caves requires increased efforts to provide alternative habitats.

Nesting boxes for bird protection

Installing nesting boxes is an integral part of nature conservation and bird protection work. The EMBA bow nesting boxes are characterized by their sufficient brood chamber size, more brightness and effective climate compensation, all of which contribute to high breeding success. They also offer protection from predators and moisture, which is crucial for many bird species. These nesting boxes are based on the experiences of the late bird protection expert Dr. Otto Henze and have proven themselves successful in forests, gardens and parks.

The combination of the efforts in Nieder-Bessingen and the findings about the importance of nesting boxes illustrate how closely landscape protection and bird protection are intertwined. By working together, not only nature but also biodiversity in the region can be sustainably secured.
