These rare errors in the material or design of the coins make the coins sought-after collector's items and can significantly increase their value.

A well-known example is a 50-pfennig coin from the Hamburg mint from 1949, where, due to an incorrect minting, only seven existing coins are known to exist and are now traded in the five-figure range.

There are various types of misminting, such as die cracks or distorted motifs, which can significantly increase the value of a coin. However, it is important to emphasize that not all coins with alleged misminting are actually worth their high price. An accurate valuation should therefore always be carried out by an expert.
