Financial miracle or chaos? Pro Natura Solothurn in the numbers!
Pro Natura Solothurn closed its annual accounts for 2024 with a loss of 23,000 francs. Although this balance is negative, it is significantly better than the originally budgeted minus of 160,000 francs Pro Natura Solothurn reports. Co-President Silvia Fröhlicher explains that the deviation from the budget is primarily due to income from donations that are difficult to plan. In particular, unexpected large donations, such as inheritances, can have a significant impact on income.
A positive trend can also be seen in the members' area. The number of members of Pro Natura Solothurn is increasing, especially during advertising campaigns in collaboration with Pro Natura Switzerland, which were supported by students in 2024. However, it should be noted that not all new members stay long-term, which can influence the numbers. Fröhlicher points out that fluctuations in finances are normal and are often associated with projects that run over several years.
Outlook for 2025
Pro Natura Solothurn has budgeted an increase of 37,000 francs for 2025. Fröhlicher is optimistic that the 2025 bill will not deviate significantly from the budget. The cost structure is expected to be more favorable, as lower expenses will be incurred this year for the recently acquired Hof Waldenstein in the Solothurn Jura. The farm still needs renovations, but the projected costs for 2025 could prove less burdensome.
The budget for 2025 will be discussed on May 24th during the general assembly of Pro Natura Solothurn. With strategic planning and a stable membership base, the organization hopes to successfully master the coming challenges in the area of environmental protection.
