Hamburg students triumph with innovative bicycle assistance system!

On July 12, 2025, six students from the Eimsbüttel high schools Helene-Lange and Kaiser-Friedrich-Ufer triumphed at the Germany finals of business@school in Munich. The winners – Antonia, Carlotta, Clara, Florian, Jacob and Stella, all 17 years old – presented their innovative business idea “ Frühn”, a bicycle assistance system that uses radar sensors to detect dangerous situations and thus increase the safety of cyclists. The system uses two 180-degree sensors in the front and rear lights, which warn in the event of danger using light and acoustic signals.

A total of over 1,000 students from around 70 schools in Germany took part in the competition, which is supported by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The initiative not only offers young people an insight into entrepreneurial thinking, but also promotes creativity and teamwork. The commitment of teachers and 400 coaches from business played a crucial role.

Competition and awards

Nine pitch events took place as part of the competition, with ten teams qualifying for the final. The jury, chaired by Michael Brigl from BCG Germany, analyzed the presentations and business plans of the participating teams. In addition to first place, several special prizes were also awarded. The team from Hamburg also received the special “Technological Innovation” prize for “ Frühn “.

Second place went to a team from Kirchheim, which impressed with the business idea “ReBoxable” (a reusable shipping box in a leasing model). A team of students from Heidenheim took third place with their magnetic induction power bank “PowerChargeGo”, which has a fold-out EU power plug.

Special recognition for sustainability

Another exciting aspect of the competition was the awarding of the sustainability prize. The team from Görlitz received this for their innovative idea “Algastralis”, which relies on algae panels. In addition, the Social Entrepreneur Prize was awarded to the team from Wiesbaden for their idea “Safejewl”, which pursues a social benefit.

The Hamburg winners impressed the jury not only with their practical solution, but also with an advanced prototype that they presented during the competition. Their goal of improving cyclist safety hits the nerve of the times and shows the commitment of young people to a safe and sustainable future.

The business@school initiative continues to inspire young talent to develop innovative business ideas and promote entrepreneurial thinking. Further information about this competition can be found on the website Hamburg.de and businessatschool.de.
