Insolvency at Beetgold: Uncertain future for vegetable start-up!
The vegetable start-up Beetgold filed for bankruptcy at the Bamberg district court on May 12, 2025. The company, which specializes in the sustainable processing of vegetable pomace, is therefore ceasing its business activities for the time being. Provisional insolvency administration has already been ordered, and lawyer Matthias Ernst from the law firm DMP Solutions has been appointed as provisional insolvency administrator in order to examine the economic situation and, if necessary, take measures to secure the insolvency estate. Ruhr24 reports.
Beetgold was founded in 2019 within the Hochland Group. The company offers a variety of products, including tortillas and pastas, that are 98% vegetable. These offers are available in Edeka and Rewe supermarkets, among others. The founding idea was to sustainably process vegetable leftovers from juice production, which meets the trend towards plant-based nutrition.
Acquisition and investments
At the beginning of 2024, Beetgold was taken over by Irodima Holding, which is led by managing director Friedrich Büse. Hochland retained a 20 percent stake in Irodima. Irodima invested around 7 million euros to finance the takeover and conversion of a former meat factory in Bamberg. Despite these investments, Beetgold's future is now uncertain, especially after bankruptcy, which jeopardizes the original plans for 2025.
Friedrich Büse expresses his wish to get Beetgold back on its feet. However, the bankruptcy raises numerous questions, not least regarding the future of the employees and the possible adjustment of the product range at Edeka and Rewe. The reasons for the company's financial difficulties are not yet publicly known. The insolvency administrator will analyze the situation and decide whether restructuring is possible or whether other steps are necessary to deal with the insolvency. Bankruptcy ticker added that the uncertainties for customers and employees are increasing significantly as a result of these developments.
Overall, the bankruptcy represents a serious setback for Beetgold and could have far-reaching effects on the increasingly relevant market for plant-based products.
