Jérôme Korn-Fourcade: New managing director for Koblenz-Saffig!

On August 1st, Jérôme Korn-Fourcade will take on new responsibility in the BBT Group. He will be regional managing director for corporate management and finance in the Koblenz-Saffig region and at the same time managing director of the Catholic Hospital Koblenz-Montabaur and the Barmfühlen Brüder Saffig. Korn-Fourcade has been active in the BBT Group since 2014 and has held various positions during this time, starting as administrative manager and commercial director at the Catholic Hospital Koblenz-Montabaur. He has been acting as regional manager since 2020 and was interim regional manager in the BBT Tauberfranken-Hohenlohe region for 15 months in 2023 and 2024 ( bibliomed manager ).

The Koblenz-Saffig region, which Korn-Fourcade will manage in the future, includes three important institutions: the Catholic Clinic Koblenz-Montabaur, the Barmfühlen Brüder Saffig and the St. Elisabeth Lahnstein. These positions are particularly relevant as the healthcare sector is currently facing significant challenges.

Challenges in healthcare

An alarming trend can be seen in the increasing number of bankruptcies among hospital operators in Germany. The main reasons for this include, among others, the insolvency of many institutions and the skyrocketing prices of energy, goods and services caused by persistent inflation. Many hospitals are no longer reaching the occupancy levels of the pre-Corona years, leading to a growing gap between costs and reimbursement ( bbtgroup ).

The forecast personnel costs for 2024 will increase in the double-digit percentage range, while revenue from medical and therapeutic services will only increase in the low single-digit percentage range. This development is forcing many hospitals to increasingly address their financial situation and is demanding urgent action from politicians.

demands on politics

The hospitals are calling on the political level to take decisive measures to support the health sector. The strict demands include adjusting prices to the increased costs, fair refinancing of tariff and material cost increases and regular updating of the database for calculating flat rates per case. In addition, an extension of the shortened payment deadline for bills to health insurance companies is required in order to secure the liquidity of the facilities and to clarify the problem of paying out care budgets.

The proposals should not be understood as state subsidies, but rather as necessary measures within the framework of a preliminary law until a comprehensive hospital reform comes into force. Given these challenges, Jérôme Korn-Fourcade's role as new regional managing director in the BBT Group will be central to addressing the financial and structural problems in the Koblenz-Saffig region.
