Card payment disrupted: Problems at Volksbank, Commerzbank & Co.
Several large banks are currently struggling with disruptions in card payments. Customers of Volksbank, Commerzbank, Sparkasse and Deutsche Bank are particularly affected. According to reports from the fault reporting portal “alletreibung.de”, card payments are not working as usual. These problems not only extend to supermarkets such as Aldi, Lidl, Rewe and Edeka, but also affect gas stations, bakeries and even a shoe store where only cash payments are possible. In both retail and online banking, customers are having difficulty making transfers.
According to a report by WDR, the Sparkasse has now fixed the problem. In comparison to the over a thousand fault reports at the Sparkasse, there were only 44 reports of problems at the Volksbanken. At the Volksbanks, the focus is primarily on online banking, with 60 percent of the difficulties reported at “alletreiben.de”. The exact cause of these widespread disruptions is not yet known. Customers are advised that there may currently be disruptions to card payments and should consider alternative payment methods.
