Girls in Rohrbach conquer the financial world: bold speeches and opportunities!

On July 21, 2025, a special day of action for students took place in Rohrbach, which dealt with the important topic of money and finances. Organized by the two institutions Soroptimist Rohrbacher Land and Lions Club Rohrbach-Böhmerwald, the event offered the 180 participating students comprehensive awareness of financial issues that particularly affect young people. The content of a speech competition was also presented on this occasion, in which six girls took part and presented their views on the topics of women and finance as well as violence.

The day of action was held shortly before school ended and covered various topics such as pocket money, maintenance, children's rights, youth accounts, investments, career choice, pension splitting and the causes of debt. Sieglinde Füreder and Sigi Mittermayr provided the musical accompaniment. The event was supported by experts from Debtor Aid Upper Austria, the child and youth advocate KiJA OÖ, Sparkasse Mühlviertel West and Uniqa, among others.

Important topics and motivation

A central goal of the share was to sensitize young people to the topic of money and finance. The club sisters encouraged girls in particular to seize opportunities and assert themselves in traditionally male-dominated fields. This was particularly highlighted in light of the gender pay gap, which states that women work for free one in eight years. As part of the speech competition, Lorena Dikany from Rohrbach High School qualified for the national competition in Vienna, which underlines the courage and leadership of the young women.

Elfriede Haindl, the initiator of the event, emphasized the importance of education for a self-determined life for girls. In this context, it is relevant that, according to a study by Exporo, financial education among women is of great importance. Access to specialist literature, online courses and webinars is considered crucial to supporting women in financial management and wealth creation.

Growing financial literacy among women

Statistics show a positive trend in women's financial empowerment, although there is still an imbalance in the financial sector. There are already numerous resources, such as specialized books for women, to help them become more confident when it comes to finance and investing. The top titles include “Women Invest themselves” by Christiane von Hardenberg and “Frau & Geld” by Helma Sick, who have been offering advice in this area for over 30 years.

In addition, social media offers a platform for finfluencers who offer valuable support in investing and building wealth. Webinars and online courses are also available to encourage women to understand their financial situation and develop appropriate investment strategies.

In an increasingly digitalized world, these resources and financial education are not only important but also necessary to empower and support women in their financial independence.
