New seizure allowances will apply from July 2025. Learn how these changes affect debtors and their rights.
New seizure allowances from July 2025: Protect your income!
From July 1, 2025, new seizure rates will apply in Germany, which particularly affect debtors. The seizure allowance is then set at 1,559.99 euros per month without maintenance obligations. On a P account, this amount is rounded to the full 10 euros, so that the allowance increases to 1,560 euros. A P account ensures that the statutory allowance is protected in the event of seizures, which means important relief for many debtors.
People who are obliged to pay maintenance are also entitled to an increased allowance if they submit a corresponding certificate to their bank. This ensures that parents or people with other obligations in particular are not placed under any additional burden. An example makes this clear: Max Mustermann earns 2,500 euros net per month, is married and has a child. He is allowed to keep 2,486.51 euros, so only 13.49 euros go to his creditors.
Regulations for higher incomes
Specific regulations also apply to debtors with higher incomes. Anyone who earns more than 4,767 euros net per month must ensure that every euro above this allowance can be seized in full. Another scenario shows Bernd, who earns 3,800 euros net and can have 3,123.35 euros protected in his P account. In his case, an additional 374.34 euros could be seized.
Some income is not legally attachable. These include expense allowances, child-care allowances, hazard pay and capital formation benefits, which can help debtors make ends meet financially. The garnishment table, which is based on Section 850c of the Code of Civil Procedure (ZPO), shows the garnishment allowances that apply in the event of personal insolvency or wage or account garnishments.
Support for those affected
The current garnishment table also comes into force on July 1, 2025 and takes the individual circumstances of the debtors into account. There are numerous debt counseling centers available in Germany that offer legal support and advice. These institutions play an important role in helping those affected to find their way in the often complex financial situation.
In summary, it can be said that the new seizure rates and allowances from July 2025 offer both the potential to relieve debtors and create clear regulations for dealing with higher incomes. Anyone who finds themselves in this situation should inform themselves in good time and seek support if necessary.
