News from June: Faster power changes and more protection for mothers!
From June 1, 2025, several important legal changes will come into force that directly affect consumers in Germany. Particularly noteworthy is the faster change of electricity providers, which is loud Focus will only take one working day from June 6th. The prerequisite for this quick change is the MaLo-ID, an eleven-digit identification number that identifies the electricity meter. It should be noted that retroactive terminations are no longer possible when changing after moving. Termination must be made in advance to ensure smooth processes.
Another relevant change concerns the deadline for submitting the 2023 tax return. This ends on June 2nd for tax advisors and income tax assistance associations, after it was extended due to the weekend.
New maternity protection and safety checks
The new law on maternity protection after miscarriages is particularly important. From June 1st, women who experience a miscarriage after the 13th week of pregnancy will receive statutory maternity leave. The protection periods are staggered: from the 13th week a period of two weeks applies, from the 17th week six weeks and from the 20th week eight weeks.
From June 19th, owners of motorhomes and caravans will be required to have their LPG systems safety checked in order to prevent accidents caused by defective systems. The ADAC recommends having this inspection carried out by certified experts.
Sustainability and digital accessibility
Another important point is the introduction of the new EU regulation, which comes into force from June 20th. This regulation aims to improve the longevity and repairability of electronic devices. In the future, batteries must last at least 800 charging cycles at 80% of their capacity, and spare parts must be available for at least seven years. Manufacturers are also required to offer security and software updates for at least five years. A repairability index is introduced, ranging from A (very good) to E (poor).
From June 28th, many digital products and services must be barrier-free, according to the new Accessibility Strengthening Act, which is intended to make access easier for people with disabilities. This regulation applies to new products coming onto the market, with the exception of micro-enterprises.
Energy prices and waste management
In June 2025, consumers will also feel the effects of rising energy prices, accompanied by new waste management regulations. Stricter regulations for waste separation, especially for organic waste, stipulate that bins with too high a plastic content will no longer be emptied. These guidelines are intended to encourage more responsible behavior when dealing with waste.
In addition, the first National Veterans Day will be celebrated in Germany on June 15th to honor active and former soldiers in the Bundeswehr. Celebrations, especially in Berlin, are planned and underline the importance of this day of remembrance.
