New center at the Bach area: a meeting place for the whole family!
The Bach area in St. Gallen is taking shape as planning for a new neighborhood and family center is in full swing. The initiative, supported by the Areal Bach association, Pro Senectute, HEKS Neue Gärtneren and the parents' forum of the Heimat-Buchwald district school, aims to create a lively meeting place for the entire district population. The first steps were taken in November 2024, when two shipping containers were delivered and joined together to form one room. The building permit from the city of St. Gallen has been received and the planning challenges have been successfully overcome st-galler-nachrichten.ch reported.
The new center will be usable all year round and will be built on a former parking space next to Bioterra's stream garden. The neighborhood population will be actively involved in the development, with the next ideas studio taking place on August 26th and September 25th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Citizens can actively contribute ideas and wishes that should be integrated into the center's program stgallen24.ch emphasized.
The concept of the center
The center will offer cross-generational and cross-cultural offerings in areas such as advice, encounters and education. Suggested activities include advice for families, intercultural cooking evenings as well as meetings for seniors and intergenerational game evenings. These offers are tailored to the needs of the population in the area.
The location of the area covers around 2,500 square meters, and the association plans to green the area and increase the quality of stay. The usage agreement with the city of St. Gallen for the parcel west of the pedestrian passerelle from Migros-Bach to St. Fiden train station has already been signed. The planting work for the expansion has also already begun. Donations in kind, used furniture and furnishings are being sought for the new center, as well as financial resources to secure all the necessary resources.
Funding and support
The entire project is currently in the fundraising phase in order to secure the financial resources for implementation. Various institutions have already pledged their support, but additional donations and financial support are urgently sought. The financial risk is borne by the sponsor, who is actively working on the successful implementation of the center.
