New start in Northeim: Ex-Breckle boss brings a breath of fresh air into mattress production!

The traditional company Breckle, known for the production of mattresses, filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of 2024 after operating in Northeim, Lower Saxony, for over 50 years. At times, up to 4,000 mattresses were manufactured here per day, including pocket springs, foam and box spring beds. Bankruptcy proceedings were initiated in March 2024, after which most employees were laid off by August. Andreas Breckle, who ran the company, described the sale to a northern German investor in 2020 as the “biggest mistake”.

The last managing director of Breckle, Christian Paar, has now founded Paar GmbH. This new company started mattress production in December 2023, supported by eleven former Breckle employees. Paar GmbH was founded in partnership with Martin and Tobias Sommer, who are also partners. The Sommers also manage the insolvent LaPur GmbH and continue to run it under the name BS Foam GmbH. Christian Paar plans to make the new company economical using a dropshipping concept, with mattresses being available in furniture stores within three days.

New logistics center on the Breckle site

The property on the former site of the mattress manufacturer Breckle in the South industrial area in Northeim was sold to I&G Immobilien GmbH & Co. KG. The managing directors of I&G Immobilien GmbH, Daniel Wenzel, Walter Päuser and Willi-Ingo Kreykenbohm, took part in the bidding process after the bankruptcy and were awarded the contract for a “double-digit million amount”. The plan is to build a logistics center in the existing halls and infrastructure.

Well-known large companies from the region are about to sign contracts as the first clients. Breckle's successor company, LaPur, will continue operations as a tenant under the name "BS Foam" and will resume factory sales. The new logistics center is expected to create up to 50 jobs and discussions are ongoing with former Breckle employees to bring back experienced workers. Mayor Simon Hartmann welcomed the takeover by regional entrepreneurs and the city administration offered support to strengthen the region economically again after bankruptcy.

The commercial area in Northeim has established itself as an ideal location for logistics companies, particularly due to its proximity to the A7 motorway. The official starting signal for the new logistics center is scheduled for November 1st.
