From July 2025, many pensioners in Germany will have an increased “standard pension”. Loud chip the standard pension will be increased by 66.15 euros per month. Pensioners whose pension began after April 2004 will receive the first increased payment at the end of July. Pensioners who retired by March 2004 can expect payment as early as the end of June.

Important information about pension adjustments

An increase in the pension can also lead to a tax return having to be submitted. However, it is important to note that this does not automatically result in additional tax payments. Pensioners should therefore inform themselves in good time and seek advice if necessary.

In cases where a pensioner dies, there are a number of formalities that must be taken into account. According to German postal service Written notification of the death is required. This notice should include the name, date of death and postal pension number of the deceased. It is advisable to also attach the death certificate. The relevant addresses for the notifications are the Deutsche Post AG Renten Service branch in Berlin for pensioners within Germany and a special address for pensioners outside Germany.

After the death of a pensioner, pensions that were wrongly paid may be reclaimed. Account closure should only occur after all required bookings have been completed. In addition, checks made out to the deceased person must also be returned to the Pension Service. Survivors can apply for a survivor's pension from the responsible pension insurance provider, with support being offered by the pension insurance provider's information and advice centers.
