Pension plus for parents: How to secure additional pension points!

Many pensioners have the opportunity to receive additional pension points, but they must submit an application. The statutory pension in Germany is based primarily on the years in which contributions were paid into the pension fund. Parents who cannot work or work less due to raising children can apply for pension points to compensate for these non-contributory periods. The German Pension Insurance Association announces that mothers and fathers will be credited with up to three years of child-rearing time, which will increase their future pension.

The pension insurance recognizes the time spent raising children for a certain period of time, as if the person raising them had paid their own contributions. A year of raising children brings almost one salary point, which amounts to 39.32 euros more pension per month. The length of time for which child-rearing time is taken into account depends on the year the child was born. Applications must be submitted in order to have these periods counted towards the pension, for example as part of an account clarification.

It is important to note that only one person can have the parenting periods counted towards their pension. Therefore, you should carefully consider who should benefit most from the pension increase. If the times are recorded in the insurance account, they are automatically taken into account in the pension calculation. According to the DRV, new applications from pensioners are not necessary and will be rejected unless the times are not yet or only partially stored in the insurance account. If you have any questions, the DRV is available on the free service telephone on 0800 10 00 48 00.
