Gas prices shock: Up to 13 cents difference between morning and evening!

The price fluctuations at gas stations in Germany have recently increased significantly. According to current analyzes by the ADAC, the differences between the prices in the morning and in the evening are significant: for E10 premium gasoline they are 12.5 cents, while diesel is even 13.3 cents more expensive at the daily high. These differences are the highest recorded since the ADAC investigations began and show a significant increase compared to the previous year, when price fluctuations were around 6 to 7 cents. These developments give drivers important information about the optimal time to refuel. T Online reports that prices begin to rise sharply starting around 6:00 a.m. and reach their daily high shortly after 7:00 a.m.

At these peak times, diesel is on average 9 cents more expensive and Super E10 is 8 cents more expensive than the daily average. ADAC expert Christian Laberer therefore recommends actively taking advantage of price fluctuations and, if possible, refueling in the cheaper time windows. From 9:00 a.m. a decline in prices begins, which is then only 2 cents above the daily average. Shortly before midday, diesel prices are already 2 cents lower.

Price peaks and course of the day

A detailed analysis shows that there are eight typical price peaks during the day, which corresponds to the record level of the previous year. At popular times in the evening, around 6:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., prices average around 4 cents below the daily average, with the lowest point occurring just before 8:00 p.m. However, fuel prices rise again from 10 p.m. and remain relatively stable overnight.

The Federal Cartel Office also points out that there are an average of 22 price changes per gas station this year, with some gas stations even recording over 40 or more than 50 changes per day. These dynamic pricing schemes make it clear that the exact price low in the evening cannot be guaranteed, but there is a good chance of refueling cheaply.

Find real fuel prices

To find the best price, the ADAC a fuel price search that displays the current fuel prices at various gas stations in Germany in real time. Drivers can select different fuel types, including Super E10, Super, Diesel and Natural Gas/CNG, and customize the radius search according to their needs.

However, it should be noted that there may occasionally be technical problems due to the high demand for this information. Users are asked to try again later or turn on their location search. In addition, the basic data of the gas stations, such as names, locations and opening times, come from the Market Transparency Office for Fuels, while the prices for natural gas/CNG are provided by “gibgas.de”.
