The standard income tax can be reduced by 20 percent of the taxpayer's expenses, up to a maximum of 1,200 euros. Tax relief can also be used for care and support services as well as for energy measures.

For renters facing rising gas prices, the ability to take advantage of tax reductions can be a welcome relief. Costs for energy-efficient measures such as thermal insulation of walls and roofs, replacement of windows, heating systems or ventilation systems can also be taken into account for tax purposes.
