Thuringia's budget is in transition: 400 million euros are to be saved!

The Thuringian state government is planning a comprehensive overhaul of the state budget in order to better prepare for the financial challenges of the coming years. Finance Minister Katja Wolf from BSW emphasized that a reserve of at least 500 million euros should be created. A central element of the budget revision is the planned savings of around 400 million euros, which are to be achieved by extending the repayment of Corona loans and suspending the existing debt repayment mechanism. Personnel costs and new positions

The Thuringian government plans to reduce personnel costs, while new positions will only be filled with extremely good reasons. Exceptions include the hiring of new teachers as well as 360 police officers and judicial staff for the new deportation detention facility in Arnstadt. Despite the austerity measures sought, the budget is described as underfinanced and ministries have to raise their own funds for new projects.

The opposition, especially the Thuringian Left, criticizes the proposed plans as short-sighted and complains that the finance minister is distorting the picture of the country's reserves. It should be noted that there should be a reserve of around 400 million euros. The new budget has a volume of 13.75 billion euros and is currently being discussed in the Thuringian state parliament.
