Visa Card Extra: Problems withdrawing money in retail stores
The Visa Card Extra, a successor to the Amazon Visa credit card independent of Amazon, recently had problems with retail withdrawals. It was not possible to withdraw cash, especially at dm branches. Requests with a cash component were rejected unless the cash component was removed by the cashier. An employee at Berliner Sparkasse confirmed that the function was blocked, but that it was being worked on in the background.
The press department of Berliner Sparkasse explained on April 3rd that the withdrawal function was basically activated and remained free of charge. Although a hotline representative expressed previous concerns, there are no plans to charge for this feature. In contrast, cash withdrawals at ATMs with the Visa Card Extra are expensive, with a minimum amount of 7.50 euros or alternatively 3 percent of the sum.
Landesbank Berlin, to which Berliner Sparkasse belongs, maintained the waiver of fees for cash withdrawals on its predecessor, the Amazon Visa card. Visa Card Extra customers do not need to worry about additional costs. Some retailers such as dm accept Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards for cash withdrawals. However, supermarkets like Edeka and Rewe only allow the Girocard. Nevertheless, there are supermarkets like Netto that allow you to withdraw money using credit and debit cards and help save fees.
