Xiaomi presents SU7 electric car: prices and variants revealed
Xiaomi recently released the price of its first electric car, the SU7. The vehicle was presented to the public in December 2023, but the Chinese smartphone manufacturer kept the prices secret at the time. In a two and a half hour event, which also marked the start of orders for the electric car, company boss Lei Jun finally revealed the prices for the different variants.
The Xiaomi SU7 is offered in three variants including the Basic and Max versions. A Pro version of the electric car should also be available in the future. While the SU7 Max is equipped with all-wheel drive and 495 kilowatts of power, the base model and the future Pro version have rear-wheel drive. However, the Pro version will have a larger battery and therefore offer the longest range.
In terms of price, the Xiaomi SU7 competes with the Tesla Model 3, one of the best-selling electric vehicles in China. Lei Jun emphasized during the presentation that the SU7 is superior to the competitor in 90 percent of the specifications and Xiaomi also wants to reflect this quality feature in the price. The basic version of the SU7 is available without additional extras for around 28,000 euros, while the SU7 Max starts at around 39,000 euros. In comparison, the price of the cheapest Model 3 is around 31,600 euros. However, it was noted that these prices are only for the Chinese market. It is unclear whether Xiaomi plans to offer the electric sedan in other countries, but it is believed that the SU7 - similar to the Model 3 - could be available at a higher price in other countries.
