Bus stop in Kirchheim is being relocated
In Kirchheim, residents of single-family homes at Räterstrasse 34 to 38 successfully protested against the current bus stop, which was directly in front of their apartments. Complaints about the impairment of quality of life and health led to the stop being relocated to the level of the “Collegium 2000” senior citizens’ residential complex. The stop had previously been temporarily moved to Zugspitzstraße, but returned, sparking renewed protests.
Due to the complaints, the municipality decided in May 2021 to move the Räterzentrum stop on both sides of Zugspitzstrasse, level with the “Lucano” restaurant. However, the west side of the stop could not be accessed barrier-free, which led to further discussions. Finally, the stop was repositioned at the corner of Veilchenweg and Räterstraße and between Falkensteinweg and Rachelweg in order to take residents' concerns into account.
Residents complained about the lack of covered bus shelters, which led to waiting bus passengers seeking shelter under the entrance roofs of houses when it rained. The administration examined various options for the stops, which will ultimately be relocated on both sides of the street at the level of the college and the asylum seekers' house, with barrier-free expansion being possible. The municipality plans to provide 125,000 euros for the measure as soon as the budget is approved by the legal supervisory authority.
The decision to relocate the stop is intended to help improve the quality of life of residents while ensuring better connections to the retirement home. The measure is welcomed by various political actors as it takes into account the interests of both residents and bus users.
