Facade Prize 2023: Munich's renovated treasures in a window exhibition
Historic buildings in Munich have been carefully restored and awarded the 2023 Facade Prize for their beauty. The city proudly presents 17 award-winning buildings in a window exhibition, including the August-Exter-Villa and the “Bogenhauser Hof”. First launched in 1969, the competition aims to highlight the importance of historic facades to the cityscape and encourage renovations.
Private owners and public actors had the opportunity to submit their renovated building facades for evaluation. This year's award winners reflect the diversity of historical buildings in Munich. Each winner receives not only a certificate, but also a prize plaque and 500 euros in recognition of the renovation work.
The list of winners includes buildings from various districts, including well-known places such as the “Bogenhauser Hof” and the “Tantris”, which are popular with prominent guests. The jury evaluated the renovations based on criteria such as originality, design richness, quality of craftsmanship and urban design significance.
Those interested can already apply for the 2025 Facade Prize. The application period runs until February 28, 2025, although the listed status of a building is not a mandatory requirement for participation. The city of Munich encourages owners and stakeholders to apply in order to honor and preserve the city's unique architectural heritage.
