Facade Prize Munich 2023: The most beautiful houses awarded
The city of Munich rewards owners for exemplary renovations with its facade award. In 2023, a total of 17 buildings were recognized for restoring the original beauty of the historic facades. The competition was launched in 1969 to counteract the loss of historical architecture and to clarify its architectural significance.
The award-winning objects represent the diversity of historical buildings in Munich and are characterized by originality, design richness, coloring, quality craftsmanship and urban design significance. In addition to a certificate and a prize plaque, prize winners also receive prize money of 500 euros each. The renovation measures help to preserve and maintain Munich's unique cityscape.
The winners also include two well-known restaurants, the “Bogenhauser Hof” on Ismaninger Straße and the “Tantris” on Johann-Fichte-Straße, which are regularly visited by prominent guests. The awards honor the owners for their exemplary renovation and design work that preserves the city's cultural heritage.
Interested visitors can view the award-winning houses in a window exhibition and in the local building commission. The application period for the 2025 Facade Prize has already begun, and both private owners and public institutions have the opportunity to submit their renovation projects, regardless of monument status.
