Facade Prize Munich 2023: The most beautiful renovated buildings awarded
The city of Munich rewards the owners of exemplary renovated buildings with the Facade Prize 2023. This competition was first launched in 1969 to stop the loss of historical building fabric due to neglected facades. The city emphasizes the importance of renovation to preserve the art-historical, architectural and urban planning aspects of historic buildings and to bring this to the public.
A total of 17 buildings in Munich were awarded the 2023 Facade Prize. In addition to a certificate, all prize winners also receive a prize plaque and prize money of 500 euros each. The city praises the award-winning owners for their exemplary renovation and design measures, which have contributed to the preservation of Munich's cityscape.
The winners include historic buildings of various types and sizes, including two prominent restaurants: the “Bogenhauser Hof” on Ismaninger Straße and the “Tantris” on Johann-Fichte-Straße. These locations are known for their high-profile guests and have been highlighted for their renovation work.
The application period for the Facade Prize 2025 has already begun and runs until February 28, 2025. Private building owners and public institutions are eligible to participate. According to the city, the monument status of a building is not a mandatory requirement for participation in the competition. Those interested can find out more about the conditions of participation and submit their documents on the competition overview page.
