Facade Prize Munich: City rewards renovations

The city of Munich has honored the city's most beautiful houses as part of the 2023 Facade Prize. A total of 17 exemplary renovated buildings that won the competition will be presented in a window exhibition. The Facade Prize was first launched in 1969, when many historic facades were neglected and altered.

Renovating historic facades is of great importance to preserve the city's cultural heritage. The city would like to use the prize to motivate owners to preserve the originality, design, coloring and craftsmanship of historical buildings. The winning owners not only receive a certificate, but also a prize plaque and prize money of 500 euros each.

The award-winning buildings include various restaurants, including the “Bogenhauser Hof” on Ismaninger Straße and the “Tantris” on Johann-Fichte-Straße, which regularly attract prominent guests. The variety of award-winning buildings ranges from public institutions to private residences, which enrich Munich's cityscape through their renovation.

The application period for the 2025 Facade Prize has already begun, and interested parties have until February 28, 2025 to submit their documents. Participation in the competition is open to all private owners and public sector actors, regardless of the building's listed status. Further information is available on the City of Munich website.
