The fact that the “State School for Fire and Disaster Protection” is based in Malchow makes the island townspeople proud and, to a certain extent, is also a figurehead for the community. But at its current location, the fire brigade school has been reaching its limits in terms of future development for years.

With the support of the city, the State Building and Real Estate Office has started looking for a new location: in the commercial area on Ahornallee, firefighters from all parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania could in future be trained and further trained in a new “State School for Fire and Disaster Protection”.

The forestry administration sees the area as a forest
The forestry administration now classifies parts of the area as a forest area where vegetation has spread. In order to remove this “forest” and use the area for other purposes, a special public interest must be demonstrated. There is particular new public interest in the replacement construction of a state-owned educational institution on Ahornallee. The city unanimously decided to transfer the land on Ahornallee to the state for the symbolic price of one euro, although the proceeds were originally expected to be more than one million euros. An expert report concluded that the high burdens made the property virtually worthless.

The transfer of the property still needs to be made official and notarized. The disposal of the contaminated sites was negotiated with the state as the developer of the new fire brigade school, so that there are no costs for the municipality.
