Gutenstein: Six months without a network – Vodafone customers are desperate!
In the small town of Gutenstein in the Sigmaringen district, residents have been cut off from the outside world for about six months. The reason for this is the targeted shutdown of the cell phone site by Vodafone. As the Swabian newspaper reported, the site's beta testers previously only had access to an outdated GSM connection that only allowed slow Internet and SMS. Due to a lost technical connection, Vodafone decided to switch off the station.
Vodafone informed customers about the network shutdown three months in advance. However, it remains unclear whether customers of partner providers such as 1&1 were also informed. This has caused many users, including the mayor Karin Mühlhans, to change provider. Many of the former Vodafone customers feel abandoned because they no longer have mobile accessibility.
Alternative providers and maintenance
Interestingly, Telekom does not have any comparable problems in this area. The landline connection is provided by this company, which means that residents can at least have stable internet access. While Vodafone has communicated details on restoring the network differently - some customers were referred to June 2023, while others were told to expect a date by the end of the year - there is still uncertainty about the actual repair.
Vodafone plans to provide Gutenstein with 4G (LTE) in the medium term, but no specific date for commissioning has been given. The company apologizes to affected customers for the inconvenience and asks for their patience.
Information about fault reports
While the situation in Gutenstein remains difficult, residents hope that a solution is in sight with the planned technical switch to 4G. Until then, it remains to be seen how Vodafone will address the problems in the network and the dissatisfaction of its customers.
