A possible alternative to traditional heating systems is district heating, provided the building is in a corresponding connection area. Another option is to install a heat pump, but this involves higher costs. Some landlords even report that they have to sell their house due to the high costs. The increasing demand for renovations can partly be attributed to the Building Energy Act. Another reason is the law on the sharing of carbon dioxide costs, which has also required landlords to pay CO2 costs since 2023. The distribution of costs between tenants and landlords depends on factors such as CO2 emissions per square meter of living space. According to Markus Kruse, managing director of Haus und Grund Grafschaft Moers, 80% of the costs are due to the tenants' user behavior. It is therefore important to landlords that their tenants heat economically and efficiently in order to keep costs as low as possible. Source: According to a report by www.nrz.de
