Heating failure in Bremen: Authorities and the district should find solutions
The situation surrounding the problem properties in Bremen-Huchting has brought the authorities onto the scene. Representatives from authorities and the district have come together to address the challenges in the Robinsbalje buildings. There is an acute problem in the apartment blocks, where residents have had to go without heating for weeks.
To ensure habitability, the Interior Department is planning all necessary official measures. A direct on-site appointment at the run-down apartment buildings is currently not planned. However, it remains unclear how the city will specifically help the affected tenants.
Since last year, Bremen has had a law that gives the authorities expanded powers to take action against landlords who neglect their residential properties. In serious cases, a trust administration can be used, but it is not yet clear whether this will be the case here. The energy supplier SWB has stopped supplying gas to the two houses in Robinbalje for a few weeks now because bills have not been paid and the gas boilers have even been removed.
