Hesse starts with Hessengeld premium for first-time buyers

Hesse has announced that it will help first-time buyers of self-used property with a bonus in the form of Hessengeld. The state government informed that this money will be paid out retroactively from March 1, 2024. This was announced after a cabinet meeting in Wiesbaden, which symbolically took place in a new development area. The bonus is 10,000 euros per buyer for the first home they own and an additional 5,000 euros per child under 18 to relieve the country's citizens of the additional purchase costs.

Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) reiterated that the goal of home ownership should be achievable for many people in Hesse. Applications for Hessengeld can be submitted this fall for all purchases completed from March 1, 2024. The government plans to make the first payments in 2024. Estimates suggest that around 23,000 property purchases per year could qualify for the subsidy. The funding corresponds to the real estate transfer tax actually paid and is paid out in ten equal installments annually.
