Hessengeld: Hesse supports first-time buyers of real estate

The state government of Hesse has announced that it will help first-time buyers of owner-occupied property with a bonus called Hessengeld. This bonus is to be granted retroactively from March 1, 2024, as was announced after an external cabinet meeting in a new development area in Wiesbaden. The Hessengeld is intended to support buyers of their first owner-occupied home with 10,000 euros each, as well as an additional 5,000 euros per child under 18 years of age.

Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) emphasized that the goal of building property must remain achievable for many people in Hesse. The Hessengeld can be applied for from autumn for all property purchases made from March 1, 2024. The state government aims to make the first payments in 2024. It is estimated that approximately 23,000 home purchases per year could benefit from this subsidy.

The funding will cover the real estate transfer tax actually paid up to the amount and will be paid out in ten equal annual installments. With the Hessengeld, the state wants to relieve its citizens of additional purchase costs and make it easier to purchase home ownership. This step by the state government shows its desire to promote its own real estate education and to offer people in Hesse new opportunities to acquire property.
