Investing in the future: How young families can afford real estate
The number of neurodegenerative diseases is increasing rapidly, according to an extensive analysis. There is even talk of a pandemic when it comes to Parkinson's disease. In 1990 there were around 2.5 million Parkinson's patients worldwide, while in 2016 there were already 6.1 million. In comparison, there are approximately 60 million dementia patients worldwide, with predictions that this will rise to 152.8 million by 2050. Unfortunately, both Parkinson's and dementia are currently incurable.
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are caused by the death of nerve cells in certain areas of the brain. Various factors, including incorrect folding of proteins, cause these cells to no longer function properly. Interestingly, studies show that up to 40 percent of cases of neurodegenerative diseases could be prevented through preventative measures such as regular exercise, a healthy diet and adequate sleep.
It is crucial to pay attention to symptoms of these diseases early and take preventive measures. A well-founded discussion of these health issues is of great importance in order to minimize the risk and maintain quality of life. Sport, nutrition and sleep are therefore not only relevant for general well-being, but also for the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases. Research and medical progress in this area continue to be of great importance in order to develop appropriate therapies and treatment options.
