Maradona in Burgdorf: A captivating journey through time to the football god!

The photo exhibition “Diego Maradona – the Hand of God” opened today in the Burgdorf City Museum. The event, which runs until September 14, 2025, features photographs by Neapolitan artist Sergio Siano. This exhibition focuses on legendary moments from Maradona's career at SSC Napoli and offers insights into his life off the pitch. The opening took place in the presence of many prominent guests, including Mayor Armin Pollehn and former Bundesliga players such as Bastian Hellberg and Carsten Linke.

The exhibition is a joint project of the Springe Football Museum, the VVV, the Stadtmuseum support association and the city of Burgdorf. H & A Immobilien GmbH, represented by managing directors Christian Herburg and Malte Anklam, acts as the main sponsor and emphasizes the importance of supporting cultural projects in the region. Anklam explained that such events help enrich local culture.

Insights into a football legend

Sergio Siano's photographs not only document Diego Maradona's sporting career, but also show the artist's development into a larger-than-life figure in Naples. Maradona, who lived from 1960 to 2020, is considered one of the greatest figures in world football. His move to SSC Napoli in 1984 and the subsequent successes, including two Italian championships, made him a city idol.

The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to engage with football history in the 1980s. Particularly highlighted is the legendary hand goal in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup, which went down in history as “the hand of God”. However, Maradona's career was also marked by personal problems, which came to the fore after his departure from Naples in 1991.

Visiting times and admission

The exhibition is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission. Particularly noteworthy is the shopping Sunday on September 7th, when the exhibition is open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to H & A Immobilien GmbH, the Lower Saxony Lotto Sport Foundation, the Hanover Region and the Stadtsparkasse Burgdorf also support the event.

The opening of the exhibition not only shows Maradona's special role in football history, but also the local connection and commitment to cultural projects in the region. For all visitors, this is a unique opportunity to experience first hand the fascination and controversy of the life of a football star.
