Mercedes-Benz is bringing over 500 HPC charging points to the USA!
Mercedes-Benz is planning a major expansion of its high-speed charging infrastructure in the USA in 2026. The company will target a total of 20 locations from Federal Realty's portfolio to set up up to ten high-speed charging points (HPC). These locations are located in popular open-air shopping centers and provide electric vehicle drivers with improved charging infrastructure.
Selected locations include Camelback Colonnade in Phoenix, Arizona, Lawrence Park Shopping Center in Broomall, Pennsylvania, and Pembroke Gardens in Pembroke Pines, Florida. On average, over ten HPC charging points are installed at each location, with each charging point equipped with an Alpitronic Hypercharger HYC400, which can offer charging powers of up to 400 kW.
Technology and usage
The chargers will be equipped with CCS (Combined Charging System) and NACS (North American Charging Standard) connectors. In most cases, one charger can charge two electric vehicles at the same time, splitting the power. At some locations, four charging stations each offer two charging points, which means that a vehicle can use the full charging power of 400 kW. The first rollout of these chargers has been announced for 2026 and aims to provide electric vehicle drivers with a reliable and efficient charging infrastructure.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy by Mercedes-Benz to expand the premium charging network for all brands of electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz currently operates over 400 HPC charging points in 14 states and plans to launch more than 2,000 additional charging points in the coming years. The company is investing over $1 billion (approx. €853 million) to build a comprehensive charging network with a total of 2,500 charging points by 2027.
Cooperation and joint venture
In addition, Mercedes-Benz is part of the Ionna joint venture, which was founded by eight car manufacturers to establish a fast charging network in the United States. The first Ionna locations went live in early 2023, and the joint venture plans to deploy over 1,000 charging points by the end of the year. By 2030, the network is expected to include more than 30,000 HPC charging points.
The agreement with Federal Realty is viewed as a portfolio-driven launch that simplifies the deployment of charging infrastructure and supports the growth of electric vehicle infrastructure. The goal is to provide customers with a reliable, powerful and seamless charging experience based on 100% clean energy.
Overall, Mercedes-Benz's planned initiative shows the increasing focus on sustainable mobility and the development of a comprehensive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the USA.
