Renting in Frankfurt: Less and less space for the budget
Rents in Frankfurt are continually rising, making the search for affordable living space a challenge. According to a press release from the “immowelt” portal, Frankfurt residents currently get an apartment of 71 square meters on average for 1,000 euros in rent, which corresponds to a decrease compared to two years ago. This development, in which less and less living space is available for the same budget, poses major problems for families in particular, says Felix Kusch, managing director of “immowelt”.
Prices per square meter are also high in cities like Munich, Berlin and Hamburg. Munich, for example, only offers 54 square meters for 1,000 euros rent, while in Berlin a 3-room apartment for the same price covers 75 square meters. Despite the same rent burden, the living space has decreased compared to previous years, which can have an impact on the quality of living.
In the Ruhr area and eastern Germany, however, larger apartments are available for 1,000 euros rent. In cities like Duisburg, Leipzig and Dresden, the budget offers more than 100 square meters of living space. This development shows that life in the country is becoming increasingly attractive. The possibility of working from home due to the Corona pandemic makes life outside of big cities even more interesting, even if increasing demand leads to higher rental prices, even in the suburbs and the Rhine-Main area.
