Munich plans to sell the old criminal justice center – where should the space go?
The Free State of Bavaria is planning to sell the criminal justice center on Nymphenburger Strasse, which Construction Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) announced on Thursday. The old complex from the 1970s will no longer be needed in the future. Instead, a new criminal justice center on Leonrodplatz is scheduled to go into operation next year.
This decision follows considerations about converting the old building and creating living space there. According to Bernreiter, however, there are currently “better options” available for creating living space in Maxvorstadt. However, it is not only politics that deals with the issue. An initiative to preserve the old complex has attracted numerous architects and environmentally conscious citizens as supporters, whose motto is “cancel, cancel.”
Need for affordable housing
Bernreiter emphasizes that the creation of affordable housing is of great importance in the tense budget situation. However, the exact location for new living space in the Munich metropolitan area was not specified. The Ministry of Construction also pointed out that additional living space in the existing justice complex could be created on a private initiative in which the Free State would not be involved. Initial discussions have already been held with the state capital of Munich about this measure.
Another point raised by the initiative to reuse the Justice Center is that demolishing and rebuilding the old building would release significant greenhouse gases. Instead, the initiative sees the opportunity to create a low-commerce location for the city in the converted justice center.
Details of the old complex
The old criminal justice center stands on a 17,500 square meter site and has a floor area of around 50,000 square meters. These dimensions illustrate the potential that would exist if the complex were repurposed if one moved away from the pure demolition ideology.
The app offers in a completely different context, but also in the area of user interaction and communication Instagram the ability to share photos and videos quickly and entertainingly. Current problems are also reported here, such as the lack of notifications after an update or difficulties adding music to stories. These challenges show that, despite the most modern technologies, there is often a need for improvement, even in digital form.
While the Free State is working on creating living space, the situation around the old criminal justice center on Nymphenburger Straße remains exciting. The outcome of this process could have a decisive impact on the city and its citizens.
