Demand vs. supply: The most wanted apartment in Germany
The discrepancy between supply and demand when looking for accommodation in Germany is clear, as a recent evaluation shows. The most wanted apartment has two rooms, a size of 64 square meters and costs 556 euros cold. This sought-after apartment receives an average of 22 contact requests per day. Interestingly, in reality, apartments are often offered that are larger and more expensive than what many searchers are actually looking for.
According to Gesa Crockford, managing director of ImmoScout24, the most frequently offered rental apartments in Germany are significantly larger and more expensive than the most searched variant. These apartments have three rooms, an area of 73 square meters and cost an average of 708 euros per month. The price difference between supply and demand is around one euro per square meter. Converted to the total living space, there is a monthly difference of 152 euros compared to the most sought-after apartment.
This discrepancy can pose challenges for potential tenants, as most advertised apartments are larger and overall more expensive than what the majority of apartment hunters are actually looking for. It is therefore advisable to pay close attention to your own needs and financial possibilities when looking for an apartment so as not to invest unnecessary time and energy in viewing apartments that are not suitable.
