The former exhibition center at Saarbrücken's Schanzenberg is undergoing extensive revitalization. Project manager Eva-Maria Klappauf describes the Schanzenberg as a “creative hub” in southwest Germany. Over 40 million euros have already been invested, and the total cost of the project could exceed 100 million euros. Almost 500 people already work on the site and several thousand new jobs are planned.

Future developments

Among the buildings that have already been completed are a modern office building and a renovated hall with a red metal facade. Companies such as AOK Rheinland-Pfalz/Saarland as well as IT companies such as Brunel and Previsionz have already opened their offices. The next phase includes the construction of a modern health center, a daycare center with 125 places and 317 apartments for students and commuters.

Another highlight of the development is the planned TUMO center Saar for young people aged 12 to 18, which will soon be connected to the htw Saar. On April 30, 2025, a franchise agreement was signed between Digital Talent Factory Saar gGmbH and TUMO's Armenian parent company. This educational project is intended to impart skills in technology, digitalization and creativity. Registration for the free program is already possible.

TUMO center Saar and what it offers

The TUMO center offers a variety of learning fields, including programming, game development, graphic design, film production, drawing, robotics, 3D modeling and photography. At the end of 2026, the center will move into its own premises on Schanzenberg. Workshop rooms and self-study zones will be set up on the ground and basement floors of the House of Knowledge.

Starting next year, TUMO boxes will also be installed in the districts, which offer space for around 30 young people and can therefore reach up to 300 young people every week. As part of the redesign of the Schanzenberg, two 16-story high-rise buildings are planned as landmarks at the entrance to the city, but these will require large tenants with areas of 5,000 to 15,000 square meters. The Alexander Kunz Theater with a variety tent will also open in winter 2026.
