New MILEA” retirement home in Albstadt: 140 jobs and modern care!

A significant step for senior care in Albstadt was taken on May 29, 2025 with the groundbreaking ceremony for the newly planned senior center “MILEA – Care that goes further”. First Mayor Udo Hollauer described this day as a special moment and invited the around 40 people present, including mayor Jürgen Kurz and other local councilors, to take a look into the future. The project is being realized by the company Ten Brinke in cooperation with DI Deutschland Immobilien and represents an answer to the gap in care for older people in the region.

After years of delays due to financial increases, construction work began on an area of 8,140 square meters on Lichtensteinstrasse. The senior center includes five buildings in which 80 service apartments, four day care centers with 22 places each and a geriatric area with 30 beds will be accommodated. A building for a central kitchen and six staff apartments are also planned.

Modern living and care concepts

According to Martin Birnbach from Ten Brinke, construction work will be carried out closely with the relevant authorities in order to meet the requirements of modern care. The new direction of living space for seniors is central to promoting interpersonal relationships. The apartments are designed with 35 to 36 square meters and the aim is to have one living space per group of 22 residents.

In total, the construction of the senior center will create between 140 and 145 new jobs, which should strengthen the local economy. Nico Hirschfelder, project manager at Ten Brinke, was optimistic about the time frame, as the shell should be completed within nine months. The new residents expect to move in in autumn 2027.

The environment and quality of life

Albstadt, the largest newly formed city in the Zollernalb district, offers a high quality of life with numerous leisure opportunities in nature. The location of the new senior center was chosen strategically: the surrounding area awaits future residents with attractive walking opportunities and a quiet neighborhood that should enable seniors to live comfortably.

The investments amounting to 170 million euros, which were confirmed in particular by Marcus Räther from DI Deutschland Immobilien AG, show the great interest in sustainably improving living conditions in the region. The construction of the “MILEA” senior center will not only make an important contribution to elderly care, but will also have a positive impact on the regional atmosphere.

Overall, the project is seen as a milestone for the city of Albstadt, as it is intended to promote the compatibility of living, care, supply, service and independence. Residents can look forward to a modern nursing home that meets the needs of the older generation.

An important initiative aimed at establishing future-proof and humane care in Albstadt will thus become a reality in the coming years. For many seniors, “MILEA” will offer a new home where they can live in dignity.
