Pföß Bakery brings bread from Mozart's times to Elsbethen!

On Friday, July 11, 2025, a very special bread will be offered for the first time in the traditional Pföß bakery in Elsbethen. This sourdough bread was created in collaboration with vocational school teacher Werner Breitfuß and a group of students and will then be available every Tuesday. What is particularly noteworthy is that the original dough for this bread was made in Mozart's birthplace in Salzburg's Getreidegasse, accompanied by the sonorous music of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart sn.at reports.

The traditional art of baking is deeply rooted in Salzburg, and the new bread is a homage to the recipes from Mozart's time. But it's not just the Pföß bakery that celebrates local history; The Salzburg Mozartkugel also has a permanent place in the city's gastronomic landscape. The famous sweet was created in 1890 by the confectioner Paul Fürst and consists of marzipan, nougat and dark chocolate. The original Salzburger Mozartkugel recently moved to Elsbethen, where it continues to be manufactured using tried and tested craftsmanship salzburgerland.com describes.

The Mozartkugel and its tradition

Making the Mozartkugel is a complex process. Each ball is rolled by hand and dipped in chocolate, so it's not only tasty but also visually pleasing. To mark its exclusivity, the Original Mozartkugel has a small “chocolate cup” to mark the dipping stick. The ball is so popular that the Café-Konditorei Fürst celebrated its 140th anniversary last year and around 3.7 million of these delicacies are produced every year.
