Foam factory in Anraff: Edertal municipality plans to purchase it
The municipality of Edertal is planning to acquire the foam factory in Anraff, which is currently for sale at a real estate auction. The 6,000 square meter property with a production and storage hall of 1,400 square meters could be used as a branch of the construction yard, which has aroused the community's interest.
At a viewing appointment, the elected officials signaled their intention to purchase. The local administration has clarified with the district the possible uses of the area, which is located in the Eder flood plain. Accordingly, vacuum trucks and seasonal equipment for the construction yard could be accommodated in the hall.
The municipality has received two offers from businesses for the area, although an equivalent offer from the municipality would be given preference. The purchase would eliminate a planned addition to the sewage treatment plant costing 250,000 euros, which could have positive financial effects.
It is possible that if the municipality buys the existing hall it will only be used as a warehouse, which could mean additional costs for possible uses such as social rooms or offices. Nevertheless, the acquisition is supported by the community as it could provide potential benefits to the community.
During the decision-making process at a special meeting in the village community center, it was decided with one vote against and two abstentions that the purchase of the foam factory would be pushed forward. Günter Fuhrmann, the owner of the factory, closes his company after more than 50 years of independence due to a lack of successors. This step marks the end of a long history of foam production in Anraff.
