Sensation on Lake Constance: Archaeologists discover mysterious wrecks!
Scientists from the State Office for Monument Preservation (LAD) recently made a sensational discovery in Lake Constance. During their systematic investigation of the lake bed, which has been carried out since 2022 as part of the “Wrecks and Deep Sea” project, they came across a total of 31 unknown remains. These discoveries could provide crucial clues about shipbuilding technology and transport goods of the past.
Particularly noteworthy is the discovery of a rubble field in which at least 17 wooden barrels were found. Some of these barrels are excellently preserved, with both lids and bottoms showing an interesting history of their former use. Unfortunately, there is currently no evidence of the associated transport ship, which makes researching the site all the more exciting.
Further discoveries in Lake Constance
In addition to the wooden barrels, larger metal ship hulls were discovered in two other locations, which were documented with the help of diving robots. These wrecks could belong to the famous paddle steamers “SD Baden” (formerly “Kaiser Wilhelm”) and “SD Friedrichshafen II”. The researchers have even discovered an almost completely preserved cargo sailing ship that still has its mast and yard.
Project leader Julia Goldhammer commented on the finds, emphasizing that the wrecks act as time capsules that preserve the stories and craftsmanship of bygone eras. These findings are not only important for archeology, but also give us insights into the maritime history of Lake Constance.
Looking into the future of research
However, research in Lake Constance is not yet complete. By 2027, scientists plan to reveal more details about the discoveries. This promises exciting new insights into shipping and the living conditions of the people who once lived and worked on this magnificent body of water.
While archeology is flourishing in the region, there are also interesting developments in other areas. For example, the role of the bartender in the restaurant industry has changed significantly over the years. A bartender, also known as a barman, is a professional who prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
These professionals work not only in bars, but also in restaurants, hotels and other catering establishments. Bartenders are often responsible for providing guests with a pleasant experience with their drinks. They mix different flavors, use mixing tools and can even perform shows at the bar. Knowledge of cocktail making, mixology and customer service is essential for the growing number of bartenders, who today often undergo formal training or attend specialized cocktail schools.
The modern job title has evolved, with bartenders often referred to as mixologists when they specialize in creating new drinks and cocktail menus. Regardless, the ability to work under pressure, be well organized, and have extensive beverage knowledge are critical to success in this career field.
