Tiny house trend: from construction trailer to mini high-rise building

During the coronavirus pandemic, people have had to get creative to achieve their goals. Toby Sichert bought a property in Rottweil on which an old mill stood. He originally planned to expand the mill and rent it out. The tiny house trend inspired him to build a 39 square meter residential tower instead of a tiny house. The living space was built in modular construction and was delivered in one piece. Panoramic windows and wooden paneling create a cozy atmosphere in the tower.

The building has two bedrooms, a living and dining area with a kitchenette and two bathrooms. Heating is provided by underfloor heating on the ground floor and air conditioning with heat pumps. The room height of two and a half meters conveys a spacious feeling of living. In Germany, tiny houses are now a philosophy of life that raises questions about consumer behavior, sustainability and environmental protection.

Tiny houses are becoming increasingly popular, with most being permanently installed. There are over 270 manufacturers in Europe ready to meet the demand for alternative forms of living. Providers of tiny houses meet at festivals like in Karlsruhe, where different models can be viewed. The DQTower by Toby Sichert has become a bestseller and is already being produced in series. Investors primarily use the tower as holiday accommodation. Despite its success, Sichert is already planning further versions of its tower, including an office version with conference rooms.
