Change at the top: Sascha Klaus takes over LBBW's real estate department!
Thorsten Schönenberger, a long-time executive at Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), announced today that he will be resigning from his position at his own request. The formal handover of responsibility for the real estate and project financing department to Sascha Klaus will take place on August 1, 2025. Schönenberger worked in various functions at LBBW for over 14 years, including eight years as the responsible board member.
The LBBW Supervisory Board decided on this personnel appointment on July 7, 2025. Christian Brand, the chairman of the supervisory board, praised Schönenberger's commitment and emphasized his valuable experience in the real estate industry. Rainer Neske, LBBW boss, highlighted the strategic realignment and strengthening of the real estate and project financing business area, which took place under Schönenberger's leadership.
The rise of Sascha Klaus
In the future, Sascha Klaus will be responsible for commercial real estate financing and project financing as LBBW's CEO. He will also take over the management of the subsidiaries LBBW Immobilien GmbH and LBBW Corporate Real Estate GmbH. Klaus, who previously served as CEO of Berlin Hyp, will remain in this role. This further development coincides with the completion of the regulatory and legal integration of Berlin Hyp into LBBW.
Klaus, 55 years old, is considered a proven expert in the real estate industry. Under his direction, Berlin Hyp has achieved a leading position in the area of real estate financing. Before joining Berlin Hyp, Klaus gained extensive experience in senior positions at Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Bank and Commerzbank, both on the market side and in risk management. He holds a degree in business administration and is an alumnus of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
These changes in LBBW's leadership are of great importance as they lead the company into a new era and set the course for future growth in the real estate sector.
