LaRo5 residential project: solidarity in Offenbach
An innovative residential project called LaRo5 in Offenbach-Bürgel has created a new approach to living. The project combines the freedom of home ownership with the flexibility of rental options, made possible by a dedicated financing system and resident engagement. The house, consisting of an old building that is over a hundred years old and a modern extension, embodies the idea of living together in solidarity, in which different lifestyles come together harmoniously.
LaRo5 is part of the Mietshäuser Syndikat, a nationwide network of autonomous house projects. The residents have formed a GmbH, which is used for all transactions related to the house. A combination of bank loans and direct loans made it possible to finance the entire project of around one million euros without the club members having to personally contribute capital. This approach differs significantly from cooperative living and creates flexibility for residents.
The residents of LaRo5 not only share their living space, but also their everyday lives. This form of communal living requires responsibility, but promotes a deeper understanding of each other and a close-knit community. Whether LaRo5 can serve as a model for other residential projects in the region remains questionable. The residents see politicians as primarily responsible for combating the housing shortage. Nevertheless, it is emphasized that communal living can be a place of retreat where experiments can be dared and experiences in social interaction can be gained. Those interested have the opportunity to contact LaRo5, as the project is currently still looking for new roommates.
